In Memory of Vi Vi Edom 1908 - 2004 Vi Edom, pictured at right with her husband Cliff Edom, was an integral part of each Missouri Photo Workshop for five decades. Although Cliff, who started the photojournalism program at the Missouri School of Journalism, is often given the credit for founding the workshop in 1949it's an indisputable fact that Vi and Cliff worked as a team. After Cliff's death in 1991, Vi continued her annual attendance and participation until the 50th MPW in Boonville Mo. in 1998, when she told Co-Directors Bill Kuykendall and Duane Dailey "I made it to the first 50 the next 50 are up to someone else." Vi Edom died on Sept 9, 2004; she was 96. While often overshadowed, her contributions to photojournalism are undeniable and were recognized with a Missouri School of Journalism Gold Medal Award, the Photographic Society of America's International Understanding Through Photography Award, and an honorary life membership in the National Press Photographers Association. Vi and Cliff were in Hermann Mo., for the third MPW in 1951. More than half a century later the workshop returns to again document this Missouri River town and Vi will be in our thoughts. In fact MPW 56 is dedicated to Vi Edom.
