After leaving Moberly to attend college and fully intending never to return, Gary Kribbs heard the song "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" by Bob Denver, and it became his personal anthem. Today he owns The Medicine Shoppe in downtown Moberly as well as the farm that he had hated as a child. At The Medicine Shoppe, he has freedom to chat and to have coffee with customers who come in for their prescriptions or to seek his advice--something he says he could never have done at a corporate pharmacy. On his farm, he has peace and quiet--something he says he could never have at The Medicine Shoppe.
The Medicine Shoppe, owned and operated by Gary Kribbs, in downtown Moberly has been a pharmacy and soda fountain for most of the city's history and continues to serve as a meeting place for its regular customers.
