Shirley Chambers is the hospice nurse who steps in when a patient gets told by a physician that he or she has six months or less to live. Her mission is to help patients with terminal illnesses to die with comfort, dignity and love as well as helping the families cope. But after 11 years of traveling the highways and byways bringing comfort to the dying and the living, Shirley plans to retire in January to spend more time enjoying her new corvette and life on her 70-acre farm with her adoring husband Max.
Shirley Chambers, left, shares a laugh with fellow hospice nurses Chris Waller and Amy Ware in their office at HomeCare of Mid-Missouri in the town of Moberly. “You've got to have a sense of humor in this line of work, otherwise your gonna cry all the time,†says Amy.
