Between harvests, Keven works on the roof of a barn he is building with his brother Kent and nephew Garett. Since 1987 the brothers have been supplementing the incomes of their farms working together as carpenters. Both farming and carpentry can be dictated by weather. During a lunch break, Kent notes, "Someday, when I retire, I am not even going to turn the weather on." If timed correctly, the brothers can line up building projects that will keep them working through the winter.
