  • Jordan Chainey is a 13-year old boy from Middle America, Missouri. Born in Springfield, Jordan, his 10-year old sister Rylee, and dad Justin Chainey recently moved to the small, unincorporated community of Fanning near St. James. Jordan’s dad is training to be a taxidermist at the Fanning Route 66 Outpost.

Jordan often foregoes homework to go bow shooting, hunt deer and wild turkey, and watch hunting programs on TV in a living room decorated with deer mounts. Hunting permeates every part of his life. As Jordan’s dad Justin and his neighbors jokingly say, the family is “in the business of killing.”

Like many small towns across America, life in Fanning is tied up in religion and the great outdoors. Jordan attends the small Holy Cross Catholic School, a K-8 program - enrollment 80. Outside of school and work, folks here spend much of their time camping, fishing, hunting and practicing archery. The outpost is an active center of business, as well as a place for the community to socialize and kick back.

Well versed with a gun since the age of 4, and bow and arrow at 9, Jordan heads out alone for a hunt in search of wild turkey and deer. Many people get involved in archery because of the long season open from September 15 to January 15, with only 13 days allotted for rifle hunting, November 14-26.
