  • A family member working overseas is stressful in itself; increase that to a father working in Iraq to support his family of four boys and a recent stay-at-home mom, and you have a recipe for disaster. But through all the routine changes and emotional roller coasters, the Woodward brothers - Cole, Christopher, Cameron, and Clayton (ages 15, 13, 10, and 9 respectively) - emerge as a loving, dynamic family.

Each brother is different, with personality traits spanning the spectrum from outgoing and sensitive to strong-willed and defiant. Their mother Candyce says their father's absence has changed their everyday behaviors, drawing out both the worst and best of her children.

The boy's father Chris Woodward left for Iraq as a truck driver in February 2008. Although the entire family pleaded for him to stay, he felt it was the best opportunity to provide for his family. While the boys are accustomed to spending weeks at a time with Candyce running the household as her husband drove trucks domestically, Christopher says, "we're used to our dad being in a different state, not a different country."

Cameron and Chris Woodward watch as other families arrive for the carpool to Chris's evening football game.
