Rilla Shearmire's presence glows through the halls of Hermann Area District Hospital. She is one of ten residents living in the hospital’s private nursing home. Room 207 has been her home since March 2004 after she was diagnosed with colon cancer.
At 97, Rilla has outlived her husband and only daughter. As a cancer patient, she has chosen not to receive any chemotherapy or radiation treatments. Instead, she has chosen to live and enjoy the few remaining months of her life.
