Justin
Whittier, 10, and Joey Buccholz, 5, are fast friends. After Justin and
his family moved near Joey a couple of months ago the boys bonded quickly
despite their age difference and the fact that Justin is mentally retarded,
Justin’s mother said.
Joey has said, “He’s my brother,” about Justin and even, “I’m Justin’s shadow.”
Justin and Joey play every day. They don’t tend to go into each other’s homes, but often call or look through the screen door to get the other to come out and play.
The friendship is strong but may be short – Justin’s family is moving back to the St. Louis area soon.
