Mark Holliway didn’t expect an introduction to Kisa Burditt one year ago would be the reason he’d want to make a better life for himself. “As far as I’m concerned, I wasn’t even a man,” Mark admits, having described his former life as one involving heavy drug use and car theft. Mark is currently taking on new responsibilities—primarily a job as a welder in order to support his new wife and her two children from a previous relationship. Next year, Mark hopes to go to college to become a petroleum engineer.
Kisa speaks of Mark’s pursuit for the all-American lifestyle—his desire for a big house with white picket fences—but insists she doesn’t need or want that. This is just one of the many differences the couple shares. Now that Mark has taken on the role of father figure, Kisa has become more dependent, and financial concerns are the catalyst for arguments. Nonetheless, the two attest to their differing personalities as the reason for their shared love.
